#4372: You Us GS Retail Omori Kimchi Stew Ramyun - United States

Okay so this is made in Korea but made for sale in the US market. This one’s made by Paldo and I think the ‘GS’ in the GS Retail mention on the logo has to do with GS Mart, a chain in South Korea. I’m looking forward to a nice kimchi bowl – we shall see!

#4389: Paldo Teumsae Jjajang Ramen - United States

Well look what we have here – something to mukbang. I haven’t done a mukbang in what seems like forever; I never find anything that’s spicy that I’ve not tried before – however, the folks at BNB Global have been kind enough to send me some samples. Definitely made in Korea, but packaged for US sales. Time to burn. Check out the videos below – the mukbang was released on Christmas 2022 but recorded August 17th, 2022 – I’m pretty far ahead.  Let go.

A large noodle block.

A large retort pouch of sauce and vegetables.

Vegetable flakes.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added sesame seed and spring onion. Noodle is thick with excellent tooth. The sauce is thick, sticky and luxuriant. A lot of vegetables in there as well as textured vegetable protein bits which gave it a meatiness and heartiness I quite liked. The con was that this was overly sweet for my taste, The heat level was reasonably strong, but not enough. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 648436122684.

#4397: Paldo Stirfried Kimchi Noodles - United States

When I shot the pictures for this one, it was the last of the instant noodles I had on hand for review – until I did 5 unboxing videos yesterday. Should have enough now to get a little way into the 4400s. I’ve had this one before, although it was an incredibly long time ago – back in early 2011. Looks like I liked it. Paldo has had a logo change since then. Let’s check this one out.

#4458: Paldo Teum-Sae Ramen - United States

Are you scared? Well, I’m not. I’m curious. This is an export package version of this one and it doesn’t mention the SHU (Scoville heat unit) number. What’s interesting also is that they’ve hyphenated Teumsae. Well, they must have a reason.

So you might say ‘but it’s Korean – why is it marked United States in the title’ See EPTS_US003? Export, Paldo Teum-Sae, United States. Let’s see if this is spicy.

This one ame by was of Daniel over at Exotic Noods – thanks again! This one’s a jjajangmyeon style noodle, so it’s got a thick and hearty black bean sauce with it. I’ve seen varieties made for GS Mart (a Korean chain) by Paldo, and everything about this package screams Paldo manufacture. If you look on the back by the barcode, you can see it’s made specifically for Us distribution. Anyways, let’s give it a try!

#10: mi ABC Selera Pedas Spicy Beef Stir-Fry Noodles – Indonesia

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

The noodles have a nice gauge – they seem slightly wider and more chewy than most instants. The flavor was a surprise – a nice beef taste with a savory hit and then the spiciness. It’s really quite spicy – worthy of a mukbang. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#9: Mamee SLRP! Mi Segera Perisa Kari Xtra Pedas – Malaysia

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

If you like curry and you like it hot, this will definitely do the trick. A strong, rich Malaysian curry shakes hands with a spicy bite that really will test your tastebuds and get you running for the water! Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#8: Paldo Teumsae Ramen 9,413SHU Version – South Korea

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

I’ve ben trying to get this one for a very long time and the folks at Paldo finally sent me some – thanks! This one was very tasty and very hot, although I remember the first time I tried it many years ago and it blew my head off. These days it’s not too hot to handle for me, but it’s still plenty hot. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#7: GB Company The Devil Of Fire Ramen – South Korea

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

This one was sent in by The Fat Hipster from YouTube – thanks! While incredibly spicy, it’s definitely not the spiciest I’ve had, that’s for sure. But it’ll burn you really good. What’s more, it sports a good noodle and a nice flavor to it which is excellent. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#6: Liangchengmei 30S” Hot Bird Noodle – China

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Thirty seconds to cook, featuring fresh noodles. This company is coming up with some really unique and delicious varieties which I thoroughly enjoy. This one is very reminiscent of another one on this list with a chicken. Original review | Mukbang

#5: Samyang Foods Buldak Bokkeummyeon – South Korea

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

While not the spiciest in their lineup, I find this to be the real baseline for the heatwave instant noodles have experienced in the past few years. This is the origination of the Fire Noodle Challenge – and it’s popular. I can get this at the local store even – and that’s really saying something to it’s popularity. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#4: Mamee Shinsegae Ghost Pepper Spicy Chicken – Malaysia

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Not the first time Malaysia’s been on this list that’s for sure, but the spiciest offering by far. Black noodles – that’s all I’ve got to say. Ominous and lethal! Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#3: Mamee Shinsegae Ghost Pepper Kari Lontong – Malaysia

#3: Mamee Shinsegae Ghost Pepper Kari Lontong – Malaysia

Here we’ve got a Malaysian variety with a heat like no other. This is definitely the strongest curry on the market right now – at least that I can find. This was a seriously hard pack to scarf down – heat upon heat, upon heat! A beautiful broth and sensational flavor. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#2: Samyang Foods Buldak 3x Spicy HOT Chicken Flavor Ramen – South Korea

#2: Samyang Foods Buldak 3x Spicy HOT Chicken Flavor Ramen – South Korea

Every year, Buldak seems to get a little hotter. If this is 3x, that’s 13,200 SHU. This one was pretty tough to get down – but I did it. Nice flavor and very, very hot. If this is just out of your ballpark, I can highly recommend the tomato Buldak – that one’s far less spicy and absolutely delightful. Original review | Mukbang | Get it here

#1: Daebak x TNTCO Carolina Reaper Spicy Chicken Flavour – Malaysia

#1: Daebak x TNTCO Carolina Reaper Spicy Chicken Flavour – Malaysia

A couple of years ago, a former champ of the list featured Carolina Reaper pepper. It’s a formidably spicy pepper – one I generally worry about when I have to meet up with it. It’s not only hot for the mouth, but it does have a tendency to cause the gut a little trouble! Definitely not for the weak! Original review | Mukbang

UPDATE – 2024/1/8

It should and must be noted here that this is the new champ. I just released this list shortly ago and hadn’t tried it yet. I really don’t have any doubt that it will be the reigning champ as long as it’s on the market as well. The full post is here and it’ll knock your socks off. It transcends spicy – all other on this list are sugar water in comparison. Original review

Previous Varieties

These two were even hotter, yet I can’t currently find them anywhere.

Isoyama Shoji 18禁カレーラーメン (Age 18 Prohibited/Restricted/Only La-Men Curry Taste) – Japan

Isoyama Shoji 18禁カレーラーメン (Age 18 Prohibited/Restricted/Only La-Men Curry Taste) – Japan

The only variety I’ve NOT been able to conquer. Fail. Twice. First off, I think these taste awful outside of the violent spiciness; like burnt plastic curry. What’s rough is that this calls for 700ml water which I believe is the top end of any instant I’ve had. Not only that, you’d think that would dilute to the point of almost bland but it most certainly does not. I managed 1/4 to a 1/3 each time of trying this. The sheer size of the bowl plays a psychological game with you. It’s mean. I should note that this does still exist as a bowl variety last I checkedm but it’s ridiculously expensive through the only place I’ve seen it – around $50. Definitely interested in trying, but that’s more than I can afford! Mukbang – Original review

Culley’s World’s Hottest Ramen – New Zealand

Culley’s World’s Hottest Ramen – New Zealand

This was hard. The only reason I was able to finish it was because of the size. There are some issues with the directions on this one and I think they could be changed without effecting flavor/heat level. Basically, cook the noodles, drain, add in boiling water and sachets and stir. This was conquering the worm for me. I pounded it and then it pounded me. Eight hours of capsaicin cramping – oh so bad. Felt like an alien was going to pierce its way out of my stomach – no joke. Plus I went through a phase where I was tingling all over, slightly numb, and kind of cold. I either went into or teetered on the edge of being in shock – endorphin land to be sure. I should note on this one that there’s going to be a version 2.0 of this I’ll be reviewing very soon and it sounds like it’ll be lethal! Stay tuned! Mukbang – Original Review

My Thoughts On SHU

‘Oh man, my face is on fire!’ ‘Dude, that’s not even hot.’ Two people can eat the same thing – one may be running for something to put out the fire while the other barely tastes it. That’s where my wife and I are at. The Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) is a way to measure spiciness; a very ridiculous way. The idea is that a glass of spicy and a glass of water are mixed. Does it will taste spicy? That’s 1 SHU. Repeat this, diluting each time. Now, products claiming thousands, hundreds of thousand or millions of SHU aren’t using this method; it would take far too long. Samyang Foods, makers of the Buldak line had this to say in an interview about how they measure –

The Math

SHU (Scoville Heat Unit) is a measurement of the spicy heat of chili peppers. First, we measure the concentration of capsaicin and dehydrocapsacin by using the HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). Then, we measure scoville heat units by using the equation below. (Although there is no official rule of calculating SHU, we have used the equation which is generally used.)

SHU = ( Dehydrocapsacin conc. X 0.82 + Capsacin conc. ) X 16
※ Concentration unit = μg/g

As far as I know, there is no ‘SHU Police’ or group that has a stamp of approval on SHU claims. What’s funny is that people often balk that Buldak’s spiciness – the original is just around 4,000SHU – and they find it’s hotter than things they try that purportedly are 400,000SHU or more. That’s because as far as I can tell, Samyang does take this seriously and more importantly, they’re being honest about it.

I would love to see an industry group that would act as a ‘seal of approval’ – like a seal that companies could get to verify their SHU claims were true. I could sell you a bottle of water right now that said it was 1,000,000SHU and charge $10 for it and you’ll find it’s not spicy at all. Will the SHU Police cry foul? Nope. A seal showing that what’s in there is as spicy as it says it is would be a really great thing for consumers. Anyways, that’s my thought on this matter. Generally, things that say they’re spicy in an ultra-spicy class usually are.

#4676: Paldo Teum-sae Ramen For Spicy Lovers - United States

It’s time for some of the old ‘Fun&Yum’ (Paldo’s motto) with a bowl of Teum-sae ramen. It used to be just Teumsae I swear but now it’s hyphenated. These newly packaged varieties feature this woman on the package and it appears she has trouble getting her jacket over her angular shoulders or something. Well, let’s give it a try!

Loose bits from the bowl.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added mung bean sprout, spring onion, sesame seed, crushed red pepper, egg, narutomaki, and chashu. Noodle is good – nice, thick ramyeon gauge to it and nice chewiness. The broth is indeed very spicy and has a standard kind of Korean spicy noodle flavor, however sports a bitter back which is a little unkind. Included veg is appreciated. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 648436122851.

#10: Nongshim Shin Ramyun Black

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

I remember when this variety came out a few years back. It’s a good one, that’s for sure – and many on my Facebook group Ramen Junkies thoroughly enjoy this one. A thick ramyun noodle is coupled with the spicy Shin broth and Sul Lon Tang powder – which adds a nice savoriness. Vegetables run around in the broth which are nice. A testament to the standard that people have found to love about Korean instant noodles. Original review | Get it here

#9: Paldo Cheese Noodle

I’ve loved this one for years. A nice thick noodle coupled with a spicy broth – and a sachet of cheese powder. It works well and is made even better with processed cheese or swiss cheese which is nice and gloppy when really hot. This is a tasty variety, through and through. Original review | Get it here

#8: Samyang Foods Buldak Light

A lighter version of the ultra spicy Buldak – less spicy, and made with a non-fried noodle. This makes for less oil of course and in turn, fewer calories. The noodle is a bit different – slightly chewier which makes for a more gourmet experience in my opinion. Original review | Get it here

Samyang Foods Buldak Quattro

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

oodles are thick with a very nice chew. Sauce has a nice amount of heat but isn’t so much that I think it will destroy anyone. Cheese flavor and standard Buldak sauce flavors go together in an apt fashion. If you’re looking for something a little lighter on the heat but really like cheese and Buldak flavor, this will fit the bill. Excellent and delightful. Original review | Get it here

#6: Paldo Rabokki Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Rabokki or rapokki is what you have when you combine tteokbokki and ramyun noodle. This is just the noodle and a sweet spicy saucy kind of combo which is extremely good. Usually it comes with sliced egg as well as fish cake and other niceties. Original review | Get it here

#5: Yopokki Cheese Rapokki

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Here’s another one where tteokbokki is included – starting to see a theme here? The texture of tteokbokki combined with noodles is really quite wonderful. This one has a cheese sauce and it’s a bit sweet. These are on the spendy side from what I’ve seen, but they’re really quite good, and a pretty large serving which could easily satisfy two. Original review | Get it here

#4: Samyang Foods Buldak Yakisoba HOT Chicken Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Great gauge on these noodles. They work well with the sauce which in itself didn’t seem all that spicy – the heat seemed to be in the mayo – which is less mayo and more gel-like. This really worked well; I generally find a lot of things like spicy jjajangmyeon to be a bit weird and to not work incredibly well, however this worked perfectly and was excellent. Original review | Get it here

#3: Samyang Foods Samyang Ramen

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Back in 1963, this was the first Korean instant noodle on the market. When it first entered the market, people weren’t exactly sure what it was; some thought it was a textile! After educating consumers and tunning the flavor from chicken to a spicy ham flavor, it took off. I absolutely love this stuff – great with ham, cheese, and egg. Definitely give it a try! Original review | Get it here

#2: Ottogi Jin Jjambbong Spicy Seafood Ramyun

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

This one is really quite wonderful. We start with a different gauge noodle from their usual fare – thicker and broader. The broth is a savory seafood stew – and smoky like grilled seafood. I tried this at an instant noodle restaurant called Love Instant Noodles a few years ago – really great! If you like seafood, this will make your head spin. Original review | Get it here

#1: Samyang Foods Rosé Buldak Stir-fried Noodles

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition

Noodle is very thick and chewy – probably the best I’ve had from these if not neck and neck with the cream carbo noodle. The sauce is spicy and extremely creamy. The heat level is there but definitely less so than other varieties. Really impressed with this one. Original review | Get it here

Here’s one made in South Korea for the US market. GS25 is a convenience store chain in South Korea – and I believe all their instant noodles they have as a house brand are made by Paldo. Let’s give this one a try.

#4859: Paldo Gompaghetti Korean Beef Flavored Noodles - United States

This one came by way of James from Lakeside, California – thank you again, sir! So, this is a combination of gomtang, a creamy beef soup, and instead of being a soup, this is a dry version, so there’s your paghetti part of the name. It sounds good, and apparently milk can used instead of water which I intend to try. Let hit it up – I’m expecting good things.

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodle in 600ml water with flake sachet contents for 4.5 minutes. Drain. Add in 50ml water (or 50ml milk). NOTE – says ten tablespoons – this is ten teaspoons – actually, just do 3 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon unless you’re keen on wasting time. Add in remaining sachet. Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A sachet of seasoning base powder.

The flake sachet.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added chashu and scallion. Noodle is just superb – thick and chewy. The flavor is exactly what I expected – Paldo’s delicious gomtang in well represented here, and a creamy beef taste emerges on top. I think this will appeal to most and the option of using 50ml of milk (which I opted to do) was just perfection. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 648436310029.

#4966: 99 Ramen Market Kimchi Ramen - United States

This is pretty neat. I started reviewing instant noodles in 2002, however I only did about 50-60 reviews by 2010. Well, in 2010, Kit and I moved to Edmonds, Washington. It was within a short walk of a 99 Ranch Market location. I’d never had such easy access to instant noodles before, and that’s what caused me to go full on noodle reviewing at that point. This is the first 99 Ranch Market branded instant noodle product I’ve ever seen. It’s made in Vietnam, and I know there’s an arm of Paldo called Paldo Vina over there and I’m going to bet that’s who made these for them. This is called private label. Anyways, pretty cool – there’s also a jjambbong and I’ll be review that soon.

#5129: Paldo Mala Bibimmen - South Korea

Thanks to James from Lakeside California for this one. My guess is this will be spicy; maybe Sichuan peppercorn spicy. This is a cold noodle, so it should be interesting. Well, let’s do this.

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Unsure whether or not there is meat – check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodle for 3 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

An instant noodle block.

A sachet of liquid soup base.

A sachet of powder seasoning.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added cucumber, egg, sesame seed, scallion, tomato, egg, and chashu. This is great – chilled noodle has good gauge and chew and isn’t overly chewy as some cold noodles can be. The sauce is just great – I wasn’t sure what to think a Sichuan pepper element would do with Bibimmen’s flavor, but it’s perfection. Really impressed and loved it. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 8809695252853.
